Hon. George Mireku Duker(MP) on behalf of Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor, has left Ghana, yesterday, November 9, 2021 to represent Ghana at the 2021 Kimberly Process Plenary Meeting in Moscow, Russia. The Plenary is scheduled to end on November 12, 2021.
The KP Plenary, currently chaired by the Russian Federation oversees the entire implementation of the Kimberly Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) in tandem with the World Diamond Council (WDC).
The Kimberly Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) is the industry's benchmark to ensure proper sourcing of diamonds without any illicit means and legitimate use of proceeds by producing countries.
The 2021 Plenary agenda will focus on finalization of the working plans of the KP working bodies for 2021 as well as general issues reflected in the priority initiatives promoted by the Russian Chairmanship that are of high importance for the sustainable development of the global diamond industry. Key amongst them are;
1. Digitization of Kimberly Process Certificates accompanying all diamonds exports;
2. Development of a global digital platform for information exchange; and
3. Drafting principles of responsible diamond sources.
Hon. Duker shall make a case for Ghana and further, woo investors to invest in Ghana’s Diamond Industry.
Hon. Duker was accompanied on the trip by Mr. Peter Awuah, Technical Director of Mines, Madam Hajaratu Kazeem, Diamond Valuer, Precious Minerals Marketing Corporation (PMMC) and Mr. Collins Anim-Sackey, Director of Policy Planning & Minerals Titles at the Minerals Commission.
