PMMC installs assay laboratory at KIA to stop gold smuggling

PMMC successfully installs an ultra-modern assay laboratory at the Kotoka International Airport to curb the frequent gold smuggling activities. This will allow the country to examine, determine, and analyze gold before exportation. The laboratory equipment includes an Xray Fluorescence (XRF) Spectrometer, Electrical Conductivity Tester for gold, Flaw detector, Specific Gravity Frame for Density Determination among others. After being appointed as the National Assayer for gold produced in the country in 2016, it is now mandated to assay gold from the mines before export. This will ensure that volumes of bullion gold are now put to check. The Minerals Commission, through the Sector Ministry, Lands and Natural Resources secured funding from the World Bank to put up the state-of-the-art facility at the Aviance Village of the KIA and then handed it over to PMMC to operate.
