Pmmc Building

Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) Ltd was established in 1963 as Ghana Diamond Marketing Board charged with the sole responsibility for the purchase and marketing of Ghana’s diamonds. In 1965, by Legislative Instrument (LI) 401, the Company was incorporated as a State Owned Enterprise (SOE). With the promulgation of the diamonds decree (NRCD 32) in 1972, LI 916 was enacted to change the company's name to Diamond Marketing Corporation. In 1989, PNDC Law 219 was enacted to yet again change the Company's name to the Precious Minerals Marketing Corporation with the following functions

  • To grade, assay, value and process precious minerals
  • To buy and sell precious minerals
  • To perform any functions conferred upon it by the Diamond Decree, 1972 (N.R.C.D. 32)
  • To appoint licensed buying agents for the purchase of precious minerals produced by small scale-miners
  • To promote the development of precious minerals and jewellery industry in Ghana
  • To do all such things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of its objectives and functions

  • PMMC must examine all gold before it leaves Ghana - Bawumia

    Government has directed the Ghana Chamber of Mines to work with the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) to check the real amount of gold exported out of the country. The directive follows a number of undervalued quantities of gold declared in Ghana against high values of the commodity recorded abroad. A recent case was revealed when the gold export record from Ghana to Saudi Arabia was two billion dollars but the foreign country receipt showed over four billion dollars. read more...

  • PMMC begins gold export monitoring

    The Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) is set to commence the official examination, determination and analysis of all gold for export by large-scale miners in the country from January next year.  According to Kojo Opare-Hammond, who is the new Chief Executive Officer of PMMC, the government intends to extend the supervision which since 1989 had been reserved for small-scale miners to the large-scale sector to ensure equity.  read more...

  • Distressed SOEs Will Be Revitalized – Hon Asamoah-Boateng

    As part of his ongoing working-visits to State Enterprises, the MD of State Enterprises Commission, Hon Asamoah-Boateng, was on Thursday, 28th June 2017, at the Precious Minerals Marketing Company [PMMC]. In his welcome address, the new MD, Mr. Opare-Hammond took Hon Asamoah-Boateng and his team through the history of his outfit. Precious Minerals Marketing Company, he said, “was incorporated 1989 and is currently wholly-stated-owned”. And as has been the story of most of these SOEs, Mr. Hammond gave a deeply worrying narration of current state of the Company’s finances where it is saddled with a whooping Ghc60m, with Ghc45m owed to banks. read more...
